Apple began selling the iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, on Friday 23 October 2026 in more than 70 countries and regions. The folding phone starts at $1,999 for 256GB and runs to $3,199 for 2TB. Apple will open 28 further markets on Friday 30 October.

Where iPhone Duo Availability Allows Walk-In Buying

iPhone Duo availability on launch weekend divides countries into two groups. Apple set aside a small amount of walk-in stock in some markets, and in others the phone can only be collected by customers who already ordered online or booked a pickup slot.

How to buyMarkets
Limited walk-in stock, while supplies lastUnited States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Mexico and several European countries
Online order or pickup reservation onlyMainland China, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates

Reuters and MacRumors both place mainland China, France, Hong Kong, India and Japan in the reservation-only group. The five remaining entries in that row — Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates — come from MacRumors, which tracked store-level stock through launch day. France is the notable European exception to walk-in sales.

In the United States, Apple limited purchases to two handsets per customer, the same cap it applied to pre-orders. Stock varied store by store rather than country by country: staff at the Edinburgh store told iDropNews they had received more units than expected, while other shops sold out within minutes of opening.

When Apple Opens 28 Remaining Markets

The second wave lands on Friday 30 October 2026, one week after the first. Apple’s announcement of the phone said 28 other countries and regions would follow the launch group, but it did not publish the list of which ones, and it has not named them since. Readers outside the first 70-plus markets have no confirmed local on-sale date beyond that 30 October commitment. Our earlier report on iPhone Duo pre-order shipping dates covered the same unnamed 28 markets when pre-orders opened.

iPhone Duo Prices by Storage Tier

Apple sells four capacities, and the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive is $1,200.

StoragePrice (United States, as of 24 October 2026)
256GB$1,999
512GB$2,199
1TB$2,599
2TB$3,199

Apple also quotes the entry model at $83.29 a month over 24 months. Prices outside the United States run higher once local taxes are added. Reuters recorded a buyer in Sydney paying A$3,899 (about $2,734) for a 512GB unit, and a Hong Kong buyer paying HK$17,499 (about $2,232) for 256GB bought in the online pre-sale.

How Long New iPhone Duo Orders Now Take

Orders placed now are quoted for late January 2027. Delivery estimates slipped past the end of 2026 within roughly half an hour of pre-orders opening at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on 16 October, and they have not recovered.

Published estimates differ slightly by configuration and country. Macworld quoted 22 January 2027 for a 256GB model in the United States on 23 October; MacRumors reported 25 January; Reuters described the slippage only as late January. Treat the exact day as a moving figure rather than a fixed one.

As of Saturday 24 October 2026, the iPhone Duo is on sale in more than 70 countries and regions, new online orders are quoted for late January 2027, and Apple has not announced any change to the 30 October date for the remaining 28 markets. Apple’s United States online store advised customers to check back on Saturday 24 October for fresh in-store pickup slots, which appear and disappear within minutes as stock is replenished.

What the $1,999 Price Does Not Include

Two omissions account for most of the criticism in early reviews, and both are confirmed on Apple’s own spec sheet.

  • No dedicated telephoto lens: the rear system is a 48MP Fusion Main camera and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide. Apple lists a 2x telephoto at a 52 mm equivalent, but describes it as enabled by the main sensor rather than supplied by a third lens.
  • No Face ID: authentication is by Touch ID, with the fingerprint reader built into the side button, and it works whether the phone is open or shut. We covered that change when Apple confirmed the release date and dropped Face ID.

A third complaint is software rather than hardware. Many third-party apps have not yet been rebuilt for the 7.6-inch inner display and run letterboxed or scaled on it, a staged process set out in our guide to iPhone Duo app compatibility.

What Reviewers Said About the Hinge and the Size

Reviews praised the build and split over whether the phone is worth buying. The hinge drew the most consistent approval: reviewers reported almost no visible crease down the inner screen, long the weakest point of folding phones.

Apple’s figures explain some of that reception. The phone weighs 254 grams, measures 5.2 mm thick open and 11.3 mm closed, carries an IP68 rating to a depth of six metres for 30 minutes, and is quoted at up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer screen and 31 hours on the inner one, according to Apple’s published tech specs. The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometre process, and Apple claims up to 35 percent better sustained performance than the iPhone 17 Pro.

The verdicts diverged. John Gruber called it an “extraordinarily polished prototype” rather than a finished product, and Marques Brownlee said that for someone who mainly texts, uses social media or browses, it is “probably a no,” both quoted by Reuters. AppleInsider’s own roundup read the same crop of reviews as considerably more favourable. Apple described the customer response as “nothing short of extraordinary,” and its chief executive, John Ternus, who took the role on 1 September 2026, said in Apple’s announcement that the “iPhone Duo is the most transformational change to iPhone since the original.”

On market share, the research firm IDC expects Apple to take 44 percent of foldable revenue and 31 percent of foldable units shipped in 2026, and to lead the category on both measures by 2027. Those are IDC projections reported by Reuters, not results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Buy an iPhone Duo Without a Reservation?

It depends on the country. Apple released limited walk-in stock in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Mexico and several European countries, while buyers in markets including mainland China, France, India and Japan need an online order or a booked pickup slot.

How Much Does the iPhone Duo Cost?

In the United States it runs from $1,999 for 256GB to $3,199 for 2TB, with 512GB at $2,199 and 1TB at $2,599. Apple also offers the entry model at $83.29 a month over 24 months.

Does the iPhone Duo Have Face ID?

No. Apple replaced Face ID with Touch ID on this model, and the fingerprint sensor sits in the side button so it can be reached with the phone folded or open.

When Does the iPhone Duo Reach the Other 28 Countries?

Friday 30 October 2026, according to Apple’s own announcement. Apple has not published which 28 countries and regions make up that second group.

Why Is iPhone Duo Stock So Limited?

Apple has not given a production figure or an explanation. What is confirmed is that it capped pre-orders at two per customer, held back only small walk-in allocations, and saw delivery estimates slip into 2027 within half an hour of orders opening.
