RE7000 is envisioned to be the best Linksys range extender out there. Its MU-MIMO technology improves the network coverage and offers high-speed internet. But, you might face connectivity issues due to incorrect setup. Many take an expert’s help while installing the Linksys RE700 extender. But, you can do it all by yourself by using the router’s setup wizard.

2 Easy Methods for Linksys RE7000 Setup

There are two ways to set up this high-end Linksys Wi-Fi extender. You can do that either using the Wireless Protected Setup button or the admin panel. These setup processes are pretty simple and take less than a minute to complete. Configure the network and security settings after the installation.

How to Perform the Linksys RE7000 Setup in WPS Method?

This Linksys RE7000 setup process is ideal for those who don’t have technical knowledge. You only need to press a button to initiate the installation process. Turn on the Linksys RE7000 extender and wait until the power LED turns green from orange. 

Now, turn on the home router and locate the range extender’s WPS button. This setup button will be located in the back panel of this Linksys product. Press it for at least 2-3 minutes and wait for a while. Release the WPS button when the WPS LED blinks green. It indicates you have set up the Linksys RE7000 router successfully. 

Now, unplug the Wi-Fi extender and mount it against the wall. Plug it back into the power outlet and reboot the device. Connect the laptop or PC to the extender and go through the on-screen setup instructions. Use Command Prompt, write “ping google.com”, and press “Enter” to test the internet connection.

But, if the above method didn’t work, access the Wi-Fi extender’s web interface for a hassle-free setup. And, here’s how you can install the Linksys RE7000 extender from a web page:

1. Enter the IP Address

Restart the Wi-Fi extender, router, and smart devices. Choose the Wi-Fi name from the wireless network list and wait until it connects to the internet. The SSID will be displayed as “Linksys Extender Setup -xxx”. (Here, “xxx” denotes the last three characters of the range extender’s Mac address). Open a web browser, move to the URL bar and write the private gateway IP. 

Press the Enter key to access the range extender’s login page. Did you get any error messages after entering the IP address? Well, then it might not be the right gateway IP for the extender. Linksys assigned the 192.168.1.1 IP address for the RE7000 model. Thus, write that in the address bar to get into the login page without further inconvenience. 

2. log in to the Router

When the login page opens, head toward the password box and write “admin”. Leave the username field blank, click “Sign In”, or press the Enter button. It will open the Linksys RE7000’s setup wizard. But, if that doesn’t help you to access this web page, write “admin” in the username instead. Click “OK” to get into the Linksys RE7000 setup page immediately. 

3. Save the Default Settings

A new window will pop up on the screen with the setup instructions. Check that, click “Save”, and choose “wireless range extender” from the list. Select “Next’ when the next window opens and check the available network names. Select the right home network name, enter the password, and tap on “OK”. Navigate to “Manually enter network name and password” if the network name is hidden. 

4. Check the Wi-Fi Strength 

Enter the extended network’s SSID and wireless password and click “OK”. After this, the Spot Finder page will appear from where you can analyze the signal strength. Reduce the distance between the router and extender if the Wi-Fi strength is low. Close the setup page and browse the internet without further network issues.

How to Configure the Linksys Extender after the Setup?

Once you set up the device, change the bandwidth frequency from the setup page. Use the 2.4GHz band while performing low-bandwidth activities. And, switch to the 5GHz band while streaming online movies or playing games. 

Don’t know how to configure the extender’s wireless channels? Open a web browser, head to the URL bar, and write the private gateway IP. 

Press Enter and enter the login credentials and click “OK”. Now, locate the “Advanced Settings” section to choose the “Wireless” option. Tap on the “Cross Band” button and select the required Wi-Fi band. 

Select “Save” to complete this configuration process. But, if you fail to connect the Linksys RE7000 to the router, contact an expert immediately.
