Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, its smallest gamepad. The Xbox Nano Controller costs $49.99, opened for pre-order on 14 October 2026 and ships on 4 November in 36 markets. Microsoft’s own announcement gives no battery-life figure, and no charging cable is included.

What Is in the Box, and What Is Not

The box holds the controller and nothing else that matters. Three things buyers may expect are absent, and all three cost money or are unavailable.

  • No USB-C cable: The battery is rechargeable and sealed, but the cable to charge it must be bought separately.
  • No battery-life claim: Microsoft has published no hours figure, saying only that performance varies with usage and connected accessories.
  • No Game Pass: The two-month Game Pass Ultimate offer applies only to the US bundles described below, not to a standalone purchase.

The sealed rechargeable battery is itself a change of habit for Xbox owners, who have spent two console generations deciding which batteries an Xbox controller takes. The Nano removes that choice.

Xbox Nano Controller Specifications

The design trade is size against features: all the usual buttons, none of the premium hardware found in Microsoft’s Elite line.

SpecificationDetail
Price$49.99 in the United States
LengthJust over 5 inches
Weight3.5 ounces (about 99 grams)
InputsAll 18 standard gameplay inputs
ConnectivityXbox Wireless and Bluetooth
BatteryBuilt-in rechargeable, no stated life
Extra controlProgrammable Action Button

The Action Button can be mapped to screenshots, gameplay capture or other shortcuts. Microsoft describes the controller as “designed to fit nearly every pocket and budget” in its Xbox Wire announcement, which is bylined to James Hunter, general manager of Xbox accessories. The announcement names no colours; Best Buy’s US listing shows a Robot White finish.

Microsoft makes no claim of Hall effect or TMR thumbsticks, the magnetic stick designs that resist drift and appear on several rival pads at this price.

Which Devices It Works With

The Nano connects to Xbox consoles over Xbox Wireless and to everything else over Bluetooth. Microsoft’s store listing names Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Windows 10 and 11, Android and iOS.

It also works with the Xbox app built into Samsung smart TVs, where players in supported regions can stream Game Pass titles through the Gaming Hub without a console. Microsoft’s listing carries the usual caveat that Bluetooth support depends on the device and software version, and that some functions may not work everywhere.

Where and When It Launches

As of 16 October 2026, the controller is on pre-order and ships on 4 November 2026 in 36 markets. Microsoft’s own announcement says only “November”; the 4 November date comes from the Microsoft Store listings, including the US and Irish stores.

The 36 launch markets are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Czechia, Denmark, the Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom and the United States.

India, and every market in Africa and the Middle East, is absent from that list. Microsoft says more markets will follow but has given no date and no prices for them.

International pricing is also unsettled. Microsoft published the $49.99 figure and said prices vary by country. The Irish store lists €49.99 including VAT. Reported UK figures disagree: several outlets give £44.99, while Pure Xbox’s own product widget showed £49.99 on launch day. Buyers outside the US should check their local store rather than convert the dollar price, which produces a misleading number.

The Two Bundle Offers

Both bundles are United States only and both run over the holiday season. Each adds two months of Game Pass Ultimate, and that subscription is limited to new members.

  1. Samsung TVs: A special Xbox Nano Controller plus two months of Game Pass Ultimate with the purchase of selected Samsung televisions.
  2. Meta Quest: An Xbox Nano Controller plus two months of Game Pass Ultimate with the purchase of a Meta Quest headset.

Microsoft has not said which Samsung models qualify, nor whether either offer will extend beyond the US. Existing Game Pass subscribers get no credit under either bundle. That pattern of conditions attached to an Xbox offer is familiar from the Disc to Digital programme, which required a disc drive to claim a licence.

What Microsoft Has Not Said

Four questions are open. Battery life has no published figure. Colour options beyond the white unit in retail listings are unannounced. The timing and pricing for markets outside the first 36 are unstated. And Microsoft has not confirmed whether the pad works with the Nintendo Switch, which buyers have asked about and which the announcement does not address.
