The OnePlus Android 17 update began on 23 October 2026, six days ahead of schedule, on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India. It installs ColorOS 17 in place of OxygenOS, which OnePlus is retiring across 24 devices. OnePlus says eligible owners can choose whether to take it.

Which OnePlus Devices Get Android 17, and When

OnePlus has published a roadmap covering 24 devices in five waves, running from late October 2026 to the first quarter of 2027. The schedule below is OnePlus’s own, and the company says builds go out in staged batches by region rather than everywhere at once.

WaveDevices
29 October 2026OnePlus 15, OnePlus Pad 4
30 October 2026OnePlus 15R, OnePlus 13, OnePlus 13s
November 2026OnePlus Open, OnePlus 13R, OnePlus 12, OnePlus Nord 6, OnePlus Nord CE6, OnePlus Pad 3
December 2026OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 12R Genshin Impact Edition, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Nord 5, OnePlus Nord CE6 Lite, OnePlus Nord CE5, OnePlus Pad 2, OnePlus Pad Go 2
First quarter of 2027OnePlus Nord 4, OnePlus N6, OnePlus N6x, OnePlus N6 Lite, OnePlus Pad Lite

As of 26 October 2026, only the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 have received the stable build, and only in India. OnePlus has not named a date for any other region, and it has not published build numbers for the global rollout. Carrier-locked handsets follow their network’s own certification timeline, which can add weeks after a region opens.

The rollout order also differs by market. Gadget Hacks reported that a separate Chinese rollout began on 8 October 2026 with different device groupings, citing Sina Tech; that account rests on a single outlet.

The Update Is Voluntary, According to OnePlus

OnePlus has said owners of eligible devices do not have to move to ColorOS. When it announced the change in July 2026, the company said users with eligible devices “will have the option to voluntarily update to the latest ColorOS”, and described the whole shift as “an operational adjustment to our software strategy”.

This is the part of the story that the rollout schedules leave out, and it is the question an owner actually has to answer this week. Almost every published timetable treats the update as something that simply arrives. OnePlus’s own wording says it is a choice.

Two limits are worth noting before relying on that. OnePlus has not explained how the option is presented on the device, so it is not clear whether declining means dismissing a prompt once or permanently. It has also not said whether the option works the same way in every market, and reporting on Europe and North America, where OnePlus has closed most of its operations, says only that owners there could choose whether to update.

Can You Go Back to OxygenOS?

OnePlus says a rollback to OxygenOS will be available, but it has not said which versions. In its July 2026 announcement the company committed to offering rollbacks while leaving the specific OxygenOS builds “subject to future official announcements”, and no such announcement had been published as of 26 October 2026.

In practice that leaves a gap an owner cannot plan around. A promised rollback with no named target version is not the same as a documented downgrade path, and OnePlus has not said whether a rollback wipes user data, which is usual for Android downgrades on this hardware. Anyone who would rather keep OxygenOS has a simpler option while the choice exists: do not install ColorOS 17 in the first place.

Why OxygenOS Is Ending

OxygenOS is being retired because OnePlus is being folded into its parent company’s software. OnePlus is owned by Oppo, the Chinese manufacturer, and OxygenOS had for several years been built on Oppo’s ColorOS codebase rather than developed separately. Android 17 is the generation at which the two stop being presented as different products.

The timing follows OnePlus shutting down most of its operations outside China and India, including the United States and Europe. The brand’s phones remain on sale in India, where this week’s rollout started, and Oppo’s own flagship line continues to launch in Europe under its own name.

ColorOS 17 itself is a visual and feature change rather than a stripped-down replacement. OnePlus launched it with the line “ColorOS 17 is here, bringing a new wave of smarter experiences, smoother interactions” under the theme “Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere”. Reviewers who have used the build describe a glassier interface, smoother animations and more AI features than the version it replaces. It is a different look and a different name on the About screen, not a loss of the phone’s functions.

What Happens to Devices Left Off the List

Older OnePlus phones that are not on the 24-device roadmap stay on OxygenOS and keep receiving what the company calls “maintenance support”. OnePlus has not defined that term, published a list of the devices it covers, or stated how long it lasts.

It has also given no support-duration commitment for the devices that do move to ColorOS 17 — no stated number of years of platform updates or security patches. Google, by contrast, runs a public beta track for the same OS generation and lists the devices in it, as the Android 17 QPR3 beta release for 23 Pixel models shows. OnePlus publishes no equivalent.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Does the OnePlus Android 17 Update Reach My Phone?

The OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 were scheduled for 29 October 2026 and arrived on 23 October in India. The 15R, 13 and 13s follow on 30 October, six more models in November, eight in December, and five in the first quarter of 2027.

Do I Have to Install ColorOS 17?

OnePlus says eligible owners have the option to update voluntarily. The company has not described how that choice appears on the device or confirmed that it behaves identically in every market.

Will OnePlus Phones Still Get Security Updates?

Yes. OnePlus has committed to continuing software updates, security patches and support for existing devices, including those staying on OxygenOS. It has not published how many years that covers.

Is OxygenOS Gone for Good?

For devices moving to Android 17, yes — ColorOS 17 replaces it. Older models outside the roadmap remain on OxygenOS with maintenance support, and OnePlus says a rollback will be offered without naming the versions.

Which Regions Have the Update Now?

India only, as of 26 October 2026. OnePlus is releasing the update in staged regional batches and has not given dates for other markets.
