Google has released Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 for Pixel phones. The build, issued on 2 October 2026, lists 20 fixed issues and reaches 23 Pixel models, from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Android 17 QPR2 is still in beta, so none of these fixes is final yet.
What Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 Actually Fixes
Google’s release notes list exactly 20 fixed issues, each tied to a public bug report. Much of the coverage has described the release as carrying “dozens” of fixes; the published list runs to 20 entries, with Issue Tracker numbers attached to every one. The heaviest of them touch unlocking, connectivity and battery.
- Fingerprint unlock freeze: the device became unresponsive when unlocked with the fingerprint sensor, an issue logged against three separate bug reports.
- Loss of cellular service: the phone process entered a crash loop and lost service entirely when the modem reported unexpected SIM slot indices.
- eSIM profile reverting: an eSIM profile could not be enabled and silently switched itself back off in Settings.
- Wi-Fi not reconnecting: Wi-Fi failed to rejoin a network during background wakes when hardware scans failed or were unsupported.
- Idle battery drain: excessive drain while idle with the Flip to Shh gesture enabled.
- Face Unlock crash: the device crashed when the “require eyes to be open” option was selected.
- Bluetooth audio cutting out: playback stopped on an active LHDC v5 device when a second connected device disconnected.
- Settings crash: the Settings app crashed when battery settings were opened.
The remainder cover app crashes, camera behaviour on external displays, the recent-apps screen, NFC tag detection and interface glitches. Google notes that quarterly releases of this kind carry no app-impacting API changes, which is why the beta is framed as a testing image rather than a developer preview. Cellular and biometric faults have been a theme across platforms this season, including bugs reported on the iPhone 18 Pro.
Which Pixel Models Can Install It
Twenty-three Pixel devices are eligible, and two recent ones are not. Google’s supported list runs from the Pixel 6a through the Pixel 11 Pro Fold and includes the original Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro do not appear on it. Some reports have put the figure at 25 models; Google’s own page lists 23, plus the Android Emulator.

Droid Life, which installed it on a Pixel 11 Pro, put the download at 597MB coming from a QPR2 beta build. Google has not published a size.
Why Leaving the Programme Now Costs You Your Data
The exit rule is the detail most worth reading before installing. Google’s instructions state that “when you apply a stable release update, you can opt out of future Beta updates without a data wipe for a limited time (until you apply the next Beta update, if you choose to do so)”. The no-wipe exit is therefore tied to a stable release, not to the beta itself.
That matters right now because Android 17 QPR2 has not reached stable. QPR2 was on its sixth beta as of 24 September 2026, so a Pixel running beta software has no stable build to step off onto. Installing QPR3 Beta 1 counts as applying the next beta update, which closes the no-wipe window until a stable release arrives.
Google’s own advice before enrolling is modest but explicit: “In most cases, you don’t need to do a full reset of your data to move to the Android 17 QPR 3 Beta, but it’s recommended that you back up data before enrolling your device.”
How to Get It
- Back up the phone first, as Google recommends in its enrolment instructions.
- Enrol the device in the Android Beta for Pixel programme at google.com/android/beta, signed in with the Google Account used on that phone.
- Take the update when the device offers it, or install one of the OTA images Google publishes for manual flashing.
When These Fixes Reach People Who Are Not Testing
Not for months, and Google has not committed to a date. Android 17’s cycle has four public stable releases in total, the platform release followed by three Quarterly Platform Releases, which puts QPR3 last in the sequence.
QPR2 is the next stable milestone; Droid Life expects it around December 2026. For QPR3 itself, 9to5Google reported a target of March 2027. As of 5 October 2026, Google’s release-notes page carries no stable date for QPR3 at all, so March remains reporting rather than a published commitment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Does Android 17 QPR3 Beta 1 Fix?
Google’s release notes list 20 fixed issues. They include a fingerprint-unlock freeze, a crash loop that cut cellular service, eSIM profiles switching themselves off, Wi-Fi failing to reconnect and idle battery drain with Flip to Shh enabled.

Twenty-three models, from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold, including the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are not on Google’s supported list.
