Is the keyboard on your Lenovo laptop malfunctioning, and do you want to know how to fix it? Possibly the ThinkPad laptop keyboard is malfunctioning, or the Ideapad Lenovo laptop keyboard is locked.

All bases are covered here. While a number of different things can cause your Lenovo laptop keyboard to stop working, just as many solutions exist for fixing it, whether the issue is mechanical or digital.

Before attempting to fix a problem, there are a few things to keep in mind.

FIX: Lenovo Keyboard Not Working Windows 10 #Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14IML05

Remember the following before you start trying to fix the problem:

Test whether the on-screen keyboard is workable

    1. To simplify the login process, select the Ease Of Access icon.
    2. To enable “Type without a keyboard,” choose the corresponding box (On-Screen Keyboard).
    3. Now check to see if the On-Screen Keyboard’s buttons and switches are functioning as intended.
    4. Check out the non-working keys on the actual keyboard, too.

Disable all the extras and shortcuts on the keyboard.

If the computer does not have a password but reboots within Windows anyway, you can access the configurations by going to the same location.

    1. Adjust the Keyboard’s Ease of Use in the Control Panel.
    2. Take the checkmarks off everything.
    3. After that, you’ll want to select “Apply Settings” and restart your computer.

Optimize the layout of the keyboard so that it is easy to use

Once you’ve made your selections, they’ll be applied every time you log in.

    1. Now Take charge of the pointer by typing commands into the keyboard. You can also navigate the screen by pressing the arrow keys on the mouse.
    2. If you want to make typing easier, activate the sticky keys. One time only, select options with keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+Alt+Del.
    3. Active the Toggle Switches. To activate the Toggle Keys, you must hold the NUM LOCK key down for at least 5 seconds. The NUM LOCK, SCROLL LOCK, and CAPS LOCK keys all produce tones when pressed.
    4. Just activate the Filter Keys at this point.
    5. Don’t let the Windows rearrange themselves when your mouse reaches the screen’s edge.

Check that every button responds in CMD

    1. To open the command prompt in Windows 10/8.1, press the Windows key and the letter X at the same time.
    2. Locate Command Prompt in Windows 7’s menu of options and click on it.
    3. Simply try the faulty keys in the Administrator: Command Prompt window.
    • A software problem, rather than a hardware one, could be at the root of this issue, assuming that it is reproducible. Therefore, use several PC-based applications to check the faulty keys. In any case, if you discover the software is at fault, just restart the configurations as instructed.
    • If the non-working keys are consistent with a hardware problem with the computer, try resetting the keyboard.

Lenovo laptop keyboard not working in Windows 10: 9 Easy Fix

If the keyboard on your Lenovo laptop has suddenly stopped working, don’t worry; we’ll go over nine potential solutions today, and at least one of them will work for you.

    Method 1: Restart Your Laptop

There’s a chance that restarting your Lenovo laptop is all that’s needed if the keys suddenly stop responding.

This is how you can force your computer to restart completely:

    • Turn off the Lenovo computer.
    • After switching it off, disconnect the power.
    • Remove the laptop’s power source.
    • Activate the device by pressing and holding the power button. Your laptop’s battery will be completely depleted if you do this.
    • When the battery life of your laptop has expired, replace it.
    • Remember to reconnect the power cord.

If it was just a technical issue, you should now be able to use the keys on your Lenovo laptop.

Method 2: Check the Physical Components

When keys on your Lenovo notebook computer stop responding, it could be because of a malfunction in the keyboard’s mechanical parts.

Following these simple procedures will allow you to test the hardware:

If only some keys are unresponsive, try pressing their bottom left corners.

    • Keep this in place for a moment.
    • See if that fixed the problem.
    • If your entire keyboard is unresponsive, or if the solutions above did not help, check for debris under the keys.

Turn off your computer immediately if you find any.

    • Flip the laptop over on its side.
    • Gently pry the dirt and dust free with a brush or cloth.
    • You should now be able to use the keyboard, assuming the issue was mechanical. If your Lenovo laptop won’t turn on, it’s probably not the keyboard. Instead, check the power adapter.

    Method 3: Change Keyboard Settings

An issue with the keyboard settings could be the cause of your Lenovo laptop’s inability to accept keystrokes.

If you want to double-check or alter your keyboard settings, try these methods:

    • On the login screen or in the menu, select the Ease of Access symbol to enable it.
    • To use an on-screen keyboard instead of a physical one, check the option under “Keyboardless Typing.”
    • In order to log in, use the mouse, and make sure all the keys on the screen are functional.
    • Choose “Control Panel” from the menu.
    • Click on Convenience.
    • Select the Center for Easy Access.
    • To make the keyboard more user-friendly, go to the settings menu and select the option.
    • Make sure nothing is selected and then save your changes.
    • You should restart your computer.

After turning on your laptop once more, you should try each key in a few different applications.

    Method 4: Uninstall Keyboard Drivers

The drivers for the keyboard are another potential source of the problem.

Here are the steps you can take to remove and update your keyboard drivers:

Get into the laptop’s Device Manager.
Move the cursor to the right of “Keyboards” and click.
In the case of additional keyboards:

    • The drivers for any additional keyboards should be located.
    • To remove a driver, right-click it and choose “Uninstall device.”
    • It’s time to restart your computer.
    • Verify if you can now type on the keyboard. Otherwise, proceed to the following section.
    • Locate the keyboard driver for your laptop.
    • Select “Uninstall device” from the context menu.
    • If your computer is acting up, try restarting it.
    • After restarting Windows, the keyboard driver should reinstall itself automatically.
    • If this doesn’t solve the issue, try updating the keyboard driver:
    • To get help with Lenovo products in the US, visit https://support.lenovo.com/us/en.
    • Select the “PC” option and hold down the mouse button.
    • A product detector will appear; select it.
    • Choose “Device Software & Drivers.”
    • Just hit the “Start Scan” button.
    • If your keyboard driver is out of the current, you should be able to locate it and update it with this guide.

Many problems that occur on laptops can be resolved by removing and reinstalling drivers. When your Lenovo laptop has trouble establishing a wireless connection, we resort to this technique.

Method 5: Use the Keyboard Troubleshooter

The Lenovo laptop has a built-in keyboard troubleshooter if you continue to have issues with the laptop’s keyboard.

    • Select the Windows icon and right-click on it.
    • Just hit the “Preferences” button.
    • Click “Update & Security” to proceed.
    • Go to the Help menu and select Troubleshoot.
    • Select “Keyboard,” and any problems should be fixed mechanically.

Method 6: Close and Run Programs

Some software can interfere with the keyboard’s normal operation, therefore you may need to disable or reactivate other applications.

Here’s what you should do to shut down your computer:

    • Raise the Task Manager window.
    • Click the “Processes” menu item.
    • The term “CTF Loader” should be searched for.
    • Select “End Process” from the context menu.
    • You should ask Cortana.
    • Select “End Process” from the menu that appears when you right-click on it.

Here’s what you need to do to get your programs up and running:

    • Use the menu to access the Task Scheduler.
    • Select “Task Scheduler Library” and then click the arrow to reveal further options.
    • For more information about Microsoft, select the arrow.
    • Select “Windows” by clicking the arrow.
    • You need to find TextServicesFramework and click on it.
    • To begin, select the window’s Run button (found on its right side).

Method 7: Get the latest version of Windows

If that doesn’t fix your keyboard, try.

Here are the measures you can take to update your Windows operating system:

    • Open the Start Menu by clicking the button.
    • To alter the preferences, click the “Settings” button.
    • To access “Update & Security,” go there.
    • To access Windows Update, select it.
    • To look for newer versions, click the “Check for updates” button. If your version of Windows is outdated, this will update it for you automatically.

    Method 8: Restore Your System

You can try to fix your laptop’s keyboard by reverting to an earlier point in time if you’ve created and saved any.

Follow these instructions to bring your system back online:

    • Select “System Properties” from the menu.
    • To enable system protection, click the corresponding tab.
    • For System Restore, please press the button.
    • Choose a previous save from before the keyboard stopped responding.
    • To proceed, select “Next.”
    • Select “Finish” and verify any alerts that appear.
    • If your computer is acting up, try restarting it.

    Method 9: Reset Your Laptop

If nothing else helps, you may need to do a factory reset on your Lenovo laptop.

Here’s how to force your laptop to restart:

    • The option to “Reset this PC” can be found in the System Preferences menu.
    • Pick the “Begin” option.
    • To keep your files, select the option.
    • In order to complete the reset, you must stick to the steps given.

    Conclusion

Using the aforementioned techniques, you can successfully repair the keyboard on your Lenovo laptop.

A simple key wash could do the trick, but if not, restarting the software might be necessary. If you happen to be using a Chromebook, however, you may be interested in reading our guide on how to disable the on-screen keyboard.
