A few years back, Apple unveiled a brand-new Find My AirPods feature that makes it simple to locate your misplaced AirPods on iPhone, iPad, and Mac via the Find My app. Although the “Find My iPhone” feature on the AirPods is more robust, it might still be helpful if you lose your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max.
The fact that Finds My AirPods isn’t quite as advanced as Find My iPhone is once again the most crucial point worth mentioning. For instance, in order for the AirPods to function, the iPhone must be Bluetooth-connected. The whole feature set won’t be available if the AirPods are too far away, but Apple will do its best to assist you in finding them.
How to use Find My AirPods
Similar to Apple’s other “Find” services for Mac, iPhone, iPod, and Apple Watch, Find My AirPods is available. You may locate your AirPods using the “Find My” app for iPad and iPhone or iCloud.com.
Open the Find iPhone app and go through your list of devices for your AirPods to use the feature. From there, you can view a map showing the location of your AirPods in relation to other Apple items that you own. You can play a sound from the AirPods by tapping the AirPods icon on the map.
The option to mute the left or right AirPod or stop playing the sound will appear once you start the sound. Since AirPods Max are over-ear linked headphones rather than totally wireless ones like AirPods and AirPods Pro, this option isn’t available for them.
If you’ve only lost one AirPod, being able to muffle either one makes it simpler to find it. Although the sound produced by the AirPods isn’t the loudest, it should still be audible enough to find a lost earphone in a generally calm setting.
It’s vital to keep in mind that all of these procedures only work if your iPhone is connected to your AirPods and they are out of their case.
The last known location of an AirPod that you’ve misplaced or that isn’t linked with your iPhone will be displayed on a map, and pressing the “Play Sound” button will display the phrase “Sound Pending”: “You will receive a notification when these AirPods connect to a paired device.”
Apple’s Find My AirPods tool is fairly helpful for finding AirPods that you may have left nearby, but less so for those that you might have left at another location. Despite the difficulties, the feature is valuable and urgently required given the AirPods’ genuinely wireless construction.
