In this era of digitalization, technology has taken over many things. There is a rising trend in the shift towards online work, which has led to the rise of ‘digital nomadism.’ Digital nomads are individuals that travel around the world and visit new locales while earning a full-time living. Their day job enables them to keep traveling, and the low-cost living option elsewhere in the world allows them to maintain a living standard of modest luxury.

There is only one thing to worry about- security. Working online requires you to maintain your data security from criminals and prevent it from lost. So to keep your devices and information safe, you have to be extra proactive and alert.

If you are planning to adopt a life of digital nomadism, these security tips will be constructive in this regard;

Table of Contents

  • Using an Antivirus Protection and a Quality VPN
  • Perform backups regularly
  • Mobile Hotspot
  • Don’t Discount Physical Security

Using an Antivirus Protection and a Quality VPN

Antivirus protection is essential for every device, but it becomes more critical when you live or work abroad on a feature ‘Bring your device- BYOD.’ If your laptop has your work and your company’s data, too, you have to make sure it is protected against malware like Trojans, adware, ransomware, and more.

Moreover, a VPN is also needed. Many digital nomads prefer to work in different public settings like hostels, coffee shops, or public parks. These settings connect you to an unknown network, which can expose your data to cybercriminals.

Through a VPN like ExpressVPN, your data can be encrypted in the process, and it connects you with a server elsewhere in the world. Moreover, a VPN enables you to visit websites, social media platforms, and services that might be banned where you live.

Perform backups regularly

For a digital nomad, their data is their livelihood. If you don’t want to lose your week’s worth of work, make sure you don’t neglect this straightforward and quick task of maintaining backups. Ideally, people back up their files in the cloud so that there is no chance of physical threat of theft. Ensure that you accompany the cloud backups with proper antivirus software.

Moreover, when using cloud service, it is essential to use a unique and complex password. Can’t you be sure to recall your 20-digit unique password? Use a password manager that will keep all your passwords accessible and safe. If you are uncertain of password-protected data and want to have a physical line of defense, they also make a backup on your external hard drive and USB drives.

Mobile Hotspot

Another way through which your digital nomadic experience can be protected is to have your internet connection so that you can avoid threats that come with public wifi networks. Many mobile hotspots can be used by inserting a local SIM card with data volume.

But if you travel a lot, then buying new SIM cards can be annoying and may seem impractical, but don’t worry, we have a solution for you, i.e., global hotspot Skyroam. This global hotspot operates without any need to buy any local SIM cards. This device finds a local internet provider itself and provides you a strong connection. It is an easy-to-carry device for places where you can’t have an internet connection, like a small hotel or train.

Don’t Discount Physical Security

Lastly, don’t underestimate the importance of physical security. Even after you have made several backups for your files and used every guard against malware, it is still possible for the thief to steal your device. Make sure you have a secure lockable suitcase. Guard your possessions all the time and avoid advertising your flashy device in public areas. And in case it starts raining, makes sure to shield and cover your device.

Therefore if you are planning to adopt a life of digital nomadism, you have two options; one that you should go for it, and two is that you secure all your data while you are at your digital nomadic life. Have excellent antivirus software, perform constant backups, get a VPN from Reviewsed.com, ensure your items are physically safe, and enjoy the world.
