Probably everyone knows what cross-stitch is. But not everyone is aware that there are many other embroidery techniques, the result of which are no less beautiful interior items and accessories. These activities are very fun for students, who may be interested to buy term papers online to spare some free time.
Let’s consider some activities that are available for execution even in a student dormitory.
Embroidery on a smooth surface
This is a meditative process. In principle, you don’t have to sign up for yoga. Engage in embroidery with a smooth surface, and your nervous system will quickly come to order.
This technique has one undeniable advantage over cross-stitch – it is cheaper. Judge for yourself, because you will only need:
- An old sheet or tablecloth – if only it was the right shade and without holes.
- Threads — you can use acrylic, you can use wool.
- A needle with a thick ear.
- Scissors for cutting threads.
- Embroidery frame. Even the cheapest plastic ones will do.
Considering that this technique does not need such a huge number of shades, as is usually required for cross-stitch when buying materials, you will quite fit in 20 dollars, and maybe even less.
The embroidery pattern can be done by yourself. But if the result is sharply different from expectations, there is no need for these torments: use diagrams from magazines or take as a basis any picture you like.
The contours of the image should be transferred to the material with a pencil or a special disappearing marker with a dotted line or dots.
Then you can get to work. Just don’t think that the essence of the process is to poke a needle wherever you have to, just to “paint over” the contours, as in a children’s coloring book. It’s not that simple. There are several types of seams: stem, loop, vestibule, etc.
This technique allows you to perform smooth gradient transitions from one shade to another, to sculpt a relief. If you master it properly, you can create real works of art or at least diversify your wardrobe with exclusive details of your design.
Needlework
There is also a volume embroidery with a smooth surface. The threads used for these purposes are thicker, and much more layers are applied.
Embroidery with beads
Beautiful, bright, spectacular. This type differs little from cross-stitch, because the principle of execution is the same, except that the pattern is created using tiny beads of different colors.
They can be matte, mother-of-pearl, shiny, transparent, like dewdrops on an early spring morning. What the market does not offer, there would be money and creative inspiration.
As for money, everything is somewhat more complicated here than with embroidery. A bag of 50 g beads costs about 5 dollars. And for a beautiful job, you will need quite a lot of shades.
However, let’s consider what else is needed to create beaded masterpieces:
Beads. Inspect old things for the presence of beaded decor that can be sported and used in work.
This way you will significantly save on materials. In general, make yourself a wonderful habit of not throwing anything away. If you are going to seriously take up needlework and, perhaps, make it your profession, anything can be useful to you! Tell your friends to ask before throwing away something unnecessary. Perhaps the decor from old clothes in your hands will find a new life.
Scheme for embroidery. To begin with, it is better to use a ready-made one. By the way, you can even buy a whole set where everything you need, including beads, will already be assembled. It’s not such a cheap treat. Even a small picture will cost you about 20 dollars. For a student, this is quite a substantial amount. But a cool idea for a gift to a friend who decided to start a new hobby.
Threads. They must match the beads in color.
Canvas. It is better to buy a special one, rather than save by using an old tablecloth. It is much easier to navigate on the embroidery canvas. Now you can buy a canvas on which the desired pattern has already been applied. This is very suitable for training. This can be purchased for only 5 dollars.
A needle for beads. The usual embroidery is not suitable here, especially if you work with small beads. A thick eyelet will not pass through the hole. Buy a set of beaded needles, it costs 5 dollars.
Embroidery frame.
Scissors.
The technique of sewing beads involves different types of seams. So here, too, everything is not just like that.
The beaded picture looks rich. Accordingly, it should have a rich design. If you were preparing a gift for someone close to you, the work must be made into a baguette. It costs quite a lot, and you are unlikely to cope. Therefore, before you start beading, calculate your finances. It’s better to take not a picture, but a small accessory: a handbag, purse, or housekeeper. These products will not have to be decorated in an expensive baguette, and they will serve not only as decoration.
Embroidery with ribbons
Delightful three-dimensional paintings can be created with the help of satin ribbons. Plant motifs, landscapes, and other beauty from the intricately writhing shiny snakes on a plain canvas look gorgeous.
How complex the technique is and whether a student can master it in their simple living conditions, we will consider below.
All you need is:
- They are sold in bobbins and have a standard width: 3, 6, 12, 24 mm. Which one to choose depends on the idea of your work.
- A piece of linen fabric or satin will do. As for the latter, it is better to use its wrong side so that the shine of the material does not interrupt the embroidery itself. The atlas will cost much cheaper, but it is somewhat more difficult to work with it.
- Floss threads. Ribbon embroidery is often combined with other techniques.
- A needle with a thick ear. When buying canvas, be sure to take the needle with you and check how easily the eyelet passes through the material. If this is not easy for him, imagine how you will suffer when you pass the tape itself through the fabric.
- Frame or hoop.
Embroidery with ribbons is not easy. It is necessary to constantly monitor that they do not twist and fit on the material in the right way. It may cost you a lot of nerves, but with patience, you will get an impressive result.
This kind of skill is gaining popularity day by day. Handmade products have become more in demand than ever. Your skill can be useful for creating wedding accessories, decorating halls for celebrations, costumes for performances, and more.
Who knows, perhaps it is the decoration of accessories and interior items with embroidery that will become your life’s work for you. However, higher education has not harmed anyone yet. Therefore, you should not ignore the training tasks.
