What the U1 Costs, Model by Model
The lineup splits into three tiers, and the gap between the cheapest and the most expensive is more than eightfold. UBTech, the Shenzhen robotics company listed in Hong Kong, sells the range through its consumer brand UWorld.

The 119,800 yuan entry price comes from UBTech’s own launch announcement of 1 July 2026, which also gave the 13,361 order figure. The tier prices above 119,800 yuan come from robotics trade sites including Humanoid.guide and RoboZaps rather than from UBTech directly. The male Ultra costs 110,000 yuan more than the female version, a difference BigGo Finance reported and UBTech has not explained publicly.
Dollar figures in circulation disagree, and the reason is the exchange rate each outlet chose rather than any change in price. Coverage has put the entry model at $16,500, $17,000 and $17,600, and the top model between $135,000 and $145,800. The yuan prices are the fixed ones.
What the U1 Is For, and What It Will Not Do
The U1 is not a household helper, and that is the single most useful thing to know before reading any of the specifications. UBTech positions it for companionship and social interaction, not domestic labour.
Its own announcement lists the intended uses as daily companionship, emotional support, social assistance, reception and hospitality, elder care, psychological support, tourism, education and premium domestic service. Cooking, cleaning, laundry and tidying appear nowhere on that list.
This distinction separates the U1 from the humanoids most people picture. It is a machine built to sit, talk, gesture and respond, and buyers at the entry price are getting an upper torso on a base that does not walk at all.
The Specifications UBTech Has Published
All the figures below are the company’s own claims from its launch materials, and none has been independently tested in published reviews.
- Size: The male configuration stands 183 cm and weighs 42 kg; the female is 168 cm and 35.2 kg.
- Movement: 88 degrees of freedom, which UBTech says reproduces up to 90% of fundamental human movements, using a dual-pivot biomimetic cervical spine of its own design.
- Emotion model: A large language model that UBTech says recognises more than 20 emotional states with over 90% accuracy.
- Responsiveness: A stated 500-millisecond response time, with speech-to-lip synchronisation latency under 20 milliseconds.
- Battery: Two to four hours per charge, per the pre-sale listings.
- Skin and data: Medical-grade silicone skin, and conversation memory encrypted and stored on the device rather than in the cloud.
UBTech describes the U1 as the first full-size humanoid of its kind “designed for mass production”. Chief Brand Officer Michael Tam said companion robots “have the potential to become an important new consumer category”.
What Early Buyers Are Saying
The first reactions are mixed, and they centre on the gap between the marketing and the machine. Startup Fortune reported that early purchasers found the delivered robots did not match the promotional renders, describing movement in demonstrations as stiff and mechanical.
That report rests on a single outlet and UBTech has not responded to it. It is worth weighing against the company’s own latency and movement claims, which have not yet been checked by an independent reviewer.
Can You Buy One Outside China?
No. As of 17 September 2026, there is no official consumer order page, regional price, warranty programme or release date for the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom or Australia, and UBTech has not published a shipping schedule for any market beyond China.
Pre-orders ran on JD.com with a 3,000 yuan deposit and closed in mid-July 2026. Some third-party resellers list the robot for international shipping at their own quoted prices, which are far above the Chinese retail figures and carry no manufacturer warranty commitment.

Three things remain open. UBTech has not published how many of the 13,361 orders have actually been delivered, so the 16 September date marks the start of fulfilment rather than its completion.
No independent teardown or review has tested the emotion-recognition accuracy, the response latency or the battery claim. And UBTech has given no figure for what a replacement silicone skin, a battery or a repair costs, which is the running cost question every owner of a 119,800 yuan machine will eventually face.
