Media houses, sprouting all over the globe, are an influential medium that alters the minds of people. Journalism is meant to be the truth. But in the fight for viewership and TRP, unbiased news platforms are getting extinct. The line between popularity and credibility is very slim. I strongly believe the media personalities should know it well to be truthful to their profession.
According to Statista, by the end of 2020, 53% of individuals responding to a global poll had confidence from conventional media, while 56% had confidence in Search Engines. Social media, not only globally, but also in each area of the world were regarded to be the least trustworthy source. Social media was by far Europe and North America’s least trusted news source and a poll conducted in the USA showed that most US citizens believed the bulk of social network news to be slanted.
Even though the number of ethical news sources is less, it is not dead. Here are some news platforms which I think are reliable for trusted news.
According to the News Bias Chart from Towards Data Science, it reads as,
Most neutral sources News Sources (102 sites in this analysis )
- The Hill – 0.09
- Forbes – 0.2
- Christian Science Monitor – 0.21
- Business Insider – 0.38
- Fortune – 0.43
- Marketwatch – 0.54
- Financial Times – 0.62
- Bloomberg – 0.85
- Reuters – 0.95
- AP – 1.06
1. Associated Press (AP)
Personally, I prefer AP more to know National and International news. Associated Press with the tagline ‘Advancing the power of facts’ is a well-reputed and trustworthy source of independent news and related information. It was founded in 1846 and primarily concentrates on disseminating news rather than relying on Profit. AP, which is chiefly based in the US and with headquarters in New York, has enough correspondents in every location in the globe.
They provide 24×7/365 up to minute news from any corner of the earth: business, financial, or any other news. We can solely trust Associated Press as they provide Independent and impartial news. Their style of reporting is non-harmful and the political story seems to be neutral. As a media person myself, It becomes my source for almost all news.
2. Reuters
Reuters, one of the biggest news agencies in the world, was established in 1981 by Paul Reuter in London. Reuters’ journalists typically follow the Reuters handbook of journalism to present and maintain ethics, values of integrity,y and speed. They provide trustworthy news which includes comprehensive analysis and a global view along with Reuters graphics, photography, and many more. The major factors of Reuters that attracted me are:-
- We get captured by their customizable views which are used to highlight the topics.
- We experience live streams of events
- Most accurate and independent news summary which provides an overall idea about the issue
- They collaborate with other top unbiased news publishers to bring up relevant and unbiased news
3. ABC News
American Broadcasting Company which was started initially as a radio Broadcasting Company is now the biggest television network in the United States and is owned by the Walt Disney company. In a survey in 2020, about 21% of American adults regarded ABC as an outstanding source for credible news and information. ABC News, the website portal of ABC also publishes relevant and independent news. ABC News has a dedicated squad to deliver remarkable articles. In addition to the news articles, they depict the news with audio, video clips, and photographs which attain much attention from viewers.
4. CBS
As per my findings, CBS is another one top and unbiased news publishers of 2021. CBS which stands for ‘Columbia Broadcasting Service’ is a division of television and Radio Service CBS, that is particularly dedicated to news. It has a digital news network that is of 24 hours and is commonly known as CBSN. CBSN was launched on November 4, 2014, and became the first US News Channel to be available exclusively on online and smart devices.
The political news of CBS has an enormous audience than other channels and they maintain a balance of language and neutral reports. When considering or analyzing CBS, I came to understand that its story selection is more favorable to the left, but whenever there is a problem they cover both sides of the story. In a survey of 2014, that is Pew research survey, it was found that 40% of the audience of CBS news is mostly liberal. This shows or points out that most liberal people consider CBS as an unbiased news publisher.
5. PBS
It’s a US-based public broadcasting network. PBS can be considered a non-profit organization founded by a combination of member stations, the corporation for public broadcasting, and donations from various private foundations and individuals. PBS can be considered as one of the most reputable sources for news in the USA and a trustworthy and unbiased publisher. But we cannot consider it as the best news source for some obvious reasons that follow:
- PBS’s news is only for one hour, News Hour, which is telecasting on weekday nights, where other news telecasters publish it every day
- It never focuses on up-to-minute content or story rather it goes to the depth analysis of the major issue.
6. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ)
The Wall Street Journal is a New York City-based newspaper. It mainly focuses on American business and publishes in the English language. The journal has its publishing on 6 days a week and has a broadsheet format. It is a newspaper of Record, that mainly focuses on business and economic news. The Wall Street Journal is one of the most expensive papers and It focuses both on the right and left sides. I observed its editorial as slightly right-biased, but it brings out the exact truth and is also left-biased in other stories.
7. Bloomberg
Bloomberg, owned by Bloomberg LP is a global American-based television network and mostly focuses on business and marketing programs. Its particular channel for news ‘Bloomberg news’ actually Bloomberg business news is a news agency that has its headquarters in New York City. It too has its mobile platform service that is bloomberg.com to deliver news digitally.
Bloomberg operates in a unique digital Sourcing subject and shows up the news in-depth extension and real-time. It can be muchly recommended to institutional professionals. Now Bloomberg is a multimedia entity. It includes Newsweekly magazine and Bloomberg Businessweek and the television broadcast.
8. Financial Times
Financial Times (FT) is a newspaper published both in broadsheet format and digitally. As the name suggests Financial Times centered on uplift and brought up economic and business current affairs. The newspaper is owned by Nikkei, a Japanese company, and is based in London.
It is one of the world’s leading sources of business information and is recognized for its incisive accurate news and analysis. Its editorial is more Independent and Centred right and can be considered more liberal than the Wall Street Journal. They keep updated with corporate and financial market analysis providing depth analysis on the business.
9. LA Times
The Los Angeles Times is the second-largest newspaper in the United States and also the fourth most popular in the US. It was founded in 1881 and owned by Los Angeles Times communication LLC. It is published mainly in California and is viewed as a great source of breaking news, sports, politics, and entertainment that is occurring in the world.
LA Times can be termed as an unbiased publisher. It does a good job of showing the facts and backs them up. They also do corrections, if necessary, and always keep their news honest. LA’s newspaper ‘ The Times’ is much more centric on upgrading their circulation and providing better and reliable news.
10. The Economist
It is an international weekly newspaper that is published both in print and digital format, mainly to portray current affairs, political, technology, business-related content, and articles. The newspaper is owned by ‘The Economist group’ and has an editorial office in the US, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
I view The Economist as one of the unbiased publishers of news. The political, technical, and economic issues are the major aspects of The Economist. While going through the digital platform of this newspaper, I came to know that it tries to build classic liberalism of the 19th Century by uniting left and right wings.
11. The Real News
The Real News is a non-profit news organization that was launched in Toronto, Canada. It has interviews of economists, politicians and also conducts multi-segment interviews of significant issues. TRNN:- True news network provides relevant and reliable news with the support of viewers. They are not funded by any corporations, the government, or even not by advertising. They completely depend on donations from the audience.
12. The Hill
It is a political newspaper based in America and is owned by News communication Inc. Established in 1994, it is commonly referred to as Capitol Hill Washington DC. The Hill, a genuine media platform, broadens its presence through the digital platform, ‘thehill.com’. The organization tries to portray political, business, and international relations-based news to the audience.
Congress, the White House, and Federal campaigns are the subjects of its content. It offers a comprehensive insight into Legislative decisions. They make much effort to get the right information and provide it to their viewers. Some consider the digital platform as more right centric but we can say that ‘The Hill’ is an accurate, honest, and unbiased publisher of news.
